Introducing Our New Dock Master
December 11th, 2011We are proud to announce that Billington Sea Kayak has a new dock master. After reviewing several candidates’ resumes and conducting interviews, our unanimous choice was for this young fellow. Our new dock master’s name is Morton, appropriately named in remembrance for Nathaniel Morton, the gentleman who with others in the late 1880’s had the foresight and conviction of preserving the beautiful woods and shores as a public park now known as Morton Park.
Morton is of multi-ethnicity being a mixture of Labrador Retriever and Vizsla. He doesn’t come with a lot of kayak experience being only about seven months old at this time. However, he impressed Pat and me with his energy and his occasional willingness to learn. He has gone rowing with us but he seemed to be more interested in trying to get a drink of water from the lake than learning how to move about carefully in a small boat. But he has until Springtime to improve on his skills. However, he has begun to learn how to greet returning kayakers to the dock, as evidenced by the photo.
As dock master and part owner of Billington Sea Kayak, Morton will have large paws to fill. Bean, our first dock master, was an extraordinary example of a personality that could soften the most demanding of our customers. He was in all respects the best dog anyone could ever be fortunate enough to have. His one weakness in dealing with folks visiting our shop was the fact that he was always influenced by his desire to share their lunches. Hopefully Morton will be happy to possibly receive only a small dog treat for his efforts in customer satisfaction.
We wish Morton a long life and a successful career here at our shop and his new home.
