About Us
Welcome to our 24 th year in business! Billington Sea Kayak first began as a very small shop that was tucked away off the beaten track on Billington Sea in Plymouth, MA selling two brands of canoes and one brand of kayaks. Billington Sea is a 269 acre pond located near the Rt. 3 and Rt. 44 interchange about 1 ½ miles from the center of Plymouth. We still are a small shop that is off the beaten track on Billington Sea. The difference now is that we offer approximately different 90 models of canoes and kayaks from 17 manufacturers.
Billington Sea Kayak not only has a large inventory of boats for every type of paddler, but also has on-water tryouts and a professional, knowledgeable staff that makes sure you get the right boat for your paddling needs. Please refer to our Boats-Models pages, or our Boats-Manufacturers page to link to the various companies we represent. That goes for your choices in accessories also. Please refer to our Accessories page for further info. Besides our large inventory of new boats, we frequently have a good selection of used boats as well as some new boats that are marked down for clearance. Please refer to our Clearance and Specials page for current listings.
Billington Sea Kayak can also offer repair services or possibly track down parts if you have damaged your boat. Please feel free to contact us.
Instruction
We also offer a full range of kayak instruction from basic skills to more advanced rescue and rolling workshops as well as children's kayak instruction. Please refer to the Instruction page for further info on workshops offered by Billington Sea Kayak as well as our good friends of the professional staff at Coastal Kayak Educators. The workshops at Billington Sea Kayak range from Introduction to Kayaking, to Intermediate Paddling Skills, and Rescues. Coastal Kayak Educators specializes in Rescue, Rolling and Children's Workshops.
Trips and Events
Please refer to our Paddle Dippings page for current listings of paddling trips, etc. that may be of interest to you. Each listed event has a name and a phone number to call for further info. We attempt to keep the listings as updated as possible throughout the season.
Links
Here you will find links to other organizations that offer an opportunity to learn more about the local rivers and what is being done to protect as well as promote them. These organizations are critical to the future health of these beautiful yet delicate areas. Please visit these web sites and support one or more of them. Other interesting web sites will included from time to time.
Paddle Dippings
This page is like an editorial and events listing page. Included may be the miscellaneous ramblings of a kayaker with too much time on his hands, a severe case of cabin fever or just wanting to spout off about something. Miscellaneous events are also noted here.
Hours of Operation
Although we are open year round, our shop hours can vary depending on the season. Normally, we are open seven days a week during the late spring, summer and early fall. Hours are usually 11-5:30 Mon-Fri, 10-5:30 Saturdays, and 11-4 Sundays. During the early spring and late fall we may be open only five days a week including weekends. Winter hours always include 10-5 Saturdays and 11-4 Sundays, but during the week maybe more "iffy". It is always best to call ahead if in doubt or driving a long distance.
On-water tryouts begin on Saturdays once the water gets soft (ice melts) on Billington Sea. We start with Saturdays 10-4 and then add Sundays 11-3 once the weather gets better, usually in April. Our tryout schedule lasts into the fall and ends once the water gets hard again.
